The 22nd Annual Enbridge Canoe for Kids will be a VERY busy event, so we are always looking for volunteers to help us out!  Join us for a great day on the beach!

Volunteer Information and Job Descriptions

Volunteer orientation is mandatory. Both orientations will be held at Mooney’s Bay (2960 Riverside Drive).  We will meet at the Baja Burger Shack on the beach. The orientation will include a walk-through of the event site, a run-down on the responsibilities and roles for each position and a briefing on the emergency plan. Please indicate that you are able to attend this orientation date.

Event day information:

When to Arrive?

  • We’re asking all volunteers to be at Mooney’s Bay for 7:00am as there will be a brief volunteer orientation session
  • Any questions you have will be answered at this session
  • Your roles will be further clarified

 What to Wear?

  • Something comfortable!
  • This event is outdoors and takes place rain or shine, so be sure to dress appropriately for the weather

 

Volunteer Job Descriptions 

SITE SET UP 

 Duties:

  • Setting up Family Fun Zone
  • Setting up Silent Auction Tent
  • Moving Chairs/Tables/Materials to relevant tents
  • Putting up signage

Skills: Able to work with little supervision, cooperative and flexible, alert and attentive to detail.

Special Requirements: All ages, willing to work in all types of weather, able to stand for long periods of time, some tasks involve heavy lifting

 Shifts:  Saturday, June 3rd – 6am to 9am

 

FAMILY FUN ZONE

 Duties:

  • Prepare and organize crafts
    Assist with operation of games
  • Clean up and maintenance of area
  • Assist children where required
  • Ensure that programming is running as scheduled 

 Skills: ability to work well with children, fun, energetic, animated, organized

 Special Requirements: Any age, previous experience working with children an asset; some positions are wheelchair accessible.

 Shifts: 9am to 12:30pm

SILENT AUCTION

 Duties:

  • Set up bid sheets and prizing
  • Set up payment area for auction closing
  • Inform participants of SA rules
  • Sell raffle tickets
  • Upon closing accept payment, and distribute prizing

Skills: superior customer service skills; work efficiently without supervision; learn new tasks quickly and effectively; ability to multi task; ability to function in a fast-paced environment; energetic.

Special Requirements: Any age; bilingualism is an asset; this position is mainly under a tent but may require occasional tasks to be completed outdoors; sitting for long periods of time.

Shifts: 7:30AM – EVENT CLOSING

 

REGISTRATION - FULL 

 Duties:

  • Registering teams as they arrive
  • Communicating with Race Coordinators
  • Accounting for Pledge and Donations tallies to CLK specs

Skills: superior customer service skills; work efficiently without supervision; learn new tasks quickly and effectively; ability to multi task; ability to function in a fast-paced environment; energetic.

Special Requirements: Any age; bilingualism is an asset; this position is mainly under a tent but may require occasional tasks to be completed outdoors; sitting for long periods of time.

Shifts: 7:30AM – 9:30AM

 

PARKING

 Duties:

  • Direct people to St. Elias Church Parking
  • Accept $5 payment for parking, making change
  • Hand out site map to event

 Skills: superior customer service skills; work efficiently without supervision; ability to handle money; energetic

 Special Requirements: Any age; ability to stand for long periods of time

 Shifts: 7:15AM – 11:00AM

 

FIRST AID (3 needed)

Duties:

  • Administering minor first aid to participants
  • Encouraging safe practices of participants
  • Implementing event emergency plan if necessary

Skills: Able to work with little supervision, cooperative and flexible, alert and attentive to detail.

Special Requirements: Over 18, First Aid Certified, NLS Certified, Life-guarding experience mandatory

Shifts:  Saturday, June 3rd – 7am to 1pm

 

BBQ ZONE

Duties:

 Stock, set-up and clean-up condiments

  • Cook food according to regulations
  • Serve food items
  • Crowd management and patron assistance.

 Skills: Excellent communication skills; organized and able to work under extreme pressure; customer service experience; able to multi-task; respond/fulfill requests promptly and efficiently; social and energetic.

 Special Requirements: Any age; standing for long periods of time; some lifting may be required.

Shifts: Saturday, June 3rd – 9:30am-1:00pm

  • safe practices of participants

 Skills: Able to work with little supervision, cooperative and flexible, alert and attentive to detail.
